Hello. My name is Derek Becher, and Ive developed a distance education fitness program just for Personal-e. Im excited by this system which allows us to freely interact with students on a personal basis.
Its amazing! My course is called Lifestyle Fitness, since I strongly believe that fitness is something that should be viewed as a lifestyle of regular and enjoyable activity. It shouldnt be perceived as something that only athletes and highly motivated individuals can obtain. Lifestyle Fitness is designed for senior high school students, and lessons cover a wide variety of fitness-related topics. They provide the base information for students to design, follow and monitor a lifelong training program. I look forward to helping you establish your lifestyle of fitness.

| The Course
At the start of Lifestyle Fitness, Ive scheduled appraisals that help to provide the starting point for determining which components of fitness you may need to concentrate on with regards to your training. These can be completed at most health clubs and YMCAs/YWCAs. Ongoing lesson material and practical training sessions then interact with each other throughout the semester. Throughout the semester, I am available to provide ongoing consultation for you. With university degrees in Physical Education and in Education, and current AFLCA Resistance Trainer Certification which began in 1995 I have the training and background to provide accurate and safe information to assist you along your progress through Lifestyle Fitness. The theoretical component of the course starts with Background Information on Fitness, Safety Considerations, and Lifestyle Assessments, and then moves onto Motivation, Recovery & Overtraining, Goal-Setting, and the Principles of Conditioning Short written assignments, including crossword puzzles, accompany each lesson to further enhance your learning of the theoretical material provided in the course. After weve covered the main components of fitness, such as Muscular Strength and Endurance, and Flexibility, for example, there will be a midterm written examination to cover the material presented in the first half of the semester. Continuing beyond the midterm examination, the majority of the remaining lessons focus on Basic Nutrition. This is a broad topic which nonetheless is a key part of a successful training program. Introduced with assessments and questionnaires, lessons on topics like Essential Nutrients, Nutrition and Performance, Nutrition and Weight Control, and The Use of Supplements, among others, will follow. Short written assignments also accompany the lessons in the second half of the term, which culminates in a final project in which you will design training and lifestyle programs for fictional characters. Following the lessons of the second half of the semester, a cumulative final written examination is provided, with a focus mainly on the material provided following the midterm. Ultimately, it is my goal to encourage students to adopt a lifestyle that is filled with regular participation in the activities that they enjoy. Upon successful completion of Lifestyle Fitness, you will have the necessary basic information and resources to propel you along a lifestyle of active, healthy living!
